A 46-year-old Streator man has been found guilty in the fatal shooting of an Aurora man In June 2021.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced yesterday that a jury has found Rodolfo Madrigal guilty of the offense of First-Degree Murder, a Class M felony, in the death of Andrew Contreras, 29, of Aurora.
According to prosecuitors, on the morning of January 12, 2021, at approximately 11:30am, Madrigal was pulling onto the ramp for Route 30 in Montgomery at the same time as Contreras. Madrigal’s car pulled beside Contreras’s car, and Madrigal fired multiple shots from a revolver before driving away.
Four of the bullets stuck Contreras’s car, killing him. Also in the car with Contreras were Contreras’s friend and Contreras’s 6-year-old child, who avoided injury. Madrigal later attempted to hide his culpability by switching his license plate with that of another vehicle. He was arrested in October 2022.
In addition to the finding of guilt, the Jury found that Rodolfo personally discharged the firearm used in the murder, resulting in a mandatory 25-year sentencing enhancement. Madrigal faces a minimum sentence of 45 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
“This verdict holds the defendant accountable for a senseless act of violence that took a man’s life and permanently impacted the lives of multiple victims and witnesses,” Assistant State’s Attorney Eric Leafblad said. “I’d especially like to recognize the civilian witnesses who testified during this case. None of them asked to be subjected to such a terrible crime. Their bravery exemplifies the finest qualities of Kane County residents.”
Madrigal remains in custody at the Kane County Jail. His next court appearance for October 22, 2026, at 1:30pm in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions.
