In a recent press release, the Batavia Police Department announced that it is seeking information regarding a possible seal coating/ black top scam in the area.
According to the release, on June 18 a BPD officer observed a suspicious truck performing a black top/seal coating job on the northeast side of town. The truck was a newer model, silver Ford F150 4 door pickup. The officer observed the truck and noted that it did not have a company name, proper black top equipment (both commonly known as indications that it is a possible scam) and displayed an out of state temporary registration plate.
After the officer passed the truck, the subjects noticed him, and they quickly packed up their tools and drove off. The officer attempted a traffic stop on the truck on an unrelated traffic violation, but the truck fled at a high rate of speed.
The officer went to the residence they had been at, suspecting they may have been in the midst of executing a scam. The homeowner told the officer that the male subjects went to the rear of the house where they knocked on the backdoor to make contact with her. When she answered, they told her they had installed her driveway for her years ago and were now coming back to sealcoat the driveway.
If anyone was approached at their residence by 1-2 males, possibly Hispanic, 30-40 years old, regarding a black top job or recently had a black top job done by the mentioned subjects and observed them to be driving a newer model Ford F150, or have video surveillance / doorbell cameras that captured the subjects, please contact the Batavia Police Department 630-454-2500.
