A Batavia man has been arrested for allegedly stalking two female juveniles on the east side of downtown Batavia.

On Friday, June 11, 2021, Batavia Police received a report of a male subject that was following two female juveniles on the east side of downtown Batavia. The male initially followed the victims in a red colored 4- door sedan, and later exited the vehicle and continued to follow the juveniles on foot. The male repeatedly and persistently called out to the juveniles and asked for their phone number. On multiple occasions the juveniles advised the subject to leave them alone, to stop following them, and that they were underage. The juveniles eventually called 9-1-1 out of fear for their safety after being followed from multiple stores and for several blocks.

Police responded to the area and located the male subject walking behind the juveniles within approximately 30 feet of them in the 300 block of North River Street. The juveniles were yelling back to the male to stop following them at the time Officers arrived on scene. The male was detained and has been identified as a Registered Child Sex Offender.

Following additional investigation and consultation with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, the accused was charged with the following:

  • Stalking (2-counts), 720 ILCS 5/12-7.3(a)(1), each count being a class 4
  • Stalking (2-counts), 720 ILCS 5/12-7.3(a)(2), each count being a class 4
  • Disorderly Conduct (2-counts), 720 ILCS 5/26-1(a)(1), each count being a class C

He was arrested on Monday June 14, 2021 and is currently awaiting bond call. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has additional information is asked to call the Batavia Police Investigations Division at (630) 454-2500.
