A North Aurora man has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with a shooting last week in the parking lot of Woodman’s grocery store in North Aurora.
The North Aurora Police Department continues to investigate the incident where two people were shot. Yesterday evening, a North Aurora man was charged with multiple felonies.
Investigators presented the facts of the case to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and the following charges were authorized:
- Aggravated battery with a firearm, Class X felony
- 4 counts of Armed Robbery, Class X felony
- 2 counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Class 4 felony
At 5:23 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to Woodman’s Market for two gunshot victims. The investigation has revealed that the accused allegedly arranged a meeting with the victim for the purpose of purchasing cannabis from the victim and agreed to meet in the parking lot at Woodman’s. The accused and a second man approached the victim in his vehicle on foot and got in. The victim pulled into a parking spot and then the accused displayed a handgun and demanded the cannabis from the victim.
A struggle for the gun ensued and the second man was shot in the leg in the back seat. The second man exited the vehicle and limped away and the vehicle rolled forward while the accused and the victim continued to struggle over the gun. During the struggle, the victim was shot in the neck and the sedan came to rest on top of the curb in the far northwest corner of the parking lot. The accused exited the vehicle and briefly tried to help the second male before leaving him and fleeing northbound through a grassy field.
A good Samaritan rendered first aid to the second man, by placing a tourniquet on his leg. He was transported by paramedics to an area hospital in fair condition. The driver of the car, a male age 17, was transported by paramedics to an area hospital in critical condition.
Officers located the accused in an apartment in the 1800 block of Oak St. He, along with a third man and a female were detained and transported to the North Aurora Police Department. The third man and the female were questioned and released later that evening while Williams has remained in custody at the North Aurora Police Department. He will attend a bond hearing in Kane County court on Saturday, June 5th.
