Cubs Score! Cubs Score!

Ok, that’s a little harsh. But still.

After two games of zero offensive output, the Cubs rediscovered – fleetingly, perhaps – the concept of scoring runs, beating the Atlanta Braves 9-3 in Atlanta.

For you math nerds out there, the Cubs almost pulled off the perfect symmetry in scoring 2 runs every other inning, beginning in the 1st, but fell just short, adding only 1 tally in the 9th.

The outburst ended the Cubs’ 5-game losing streak and ended a dismal run of 20 consecutive scoreless innings.

Starter Adbert Alzolay pitched 6 strong innings for the visitors, giving up only 4 hits and 2 earned runs.   It was Alzolay’s longest start of the year.

Center fielder Jake Marisnick had a homer for the Cubs, while Jason Heyward drove in 2 runs on 2 hits in a game where every starter had at least one it.

The Cubs play the Cincinnati Reds in Cincinnati tonight.
