Aurora police are investigating a shooting Monday evening that sent a 20-year-old man to hospital in critical yet stable condition. According to police, at approximately 6:36pm, Aurora Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of Wilder Street in Aurora, where they were notified that a 20-year-old male victim was shot outside the residence and driven to a local hospital. The victim was eventually transported to another hospital for treatment of his injuries and is currently listed in critical, yet stable condition. No additional injuries were reported. An Elgin woman who pleaded guilty to killing the man with whom she shared a house has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced that on December 18, Sylvia Camacho pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder, a Class 1 felony, in the stabbing death of Peter J. Lopez, 56, a man with whom she shared a residence in the 300 block of Ryerson Avenue in Elgin. Camacho was originally charged with First Degree Murder. Judge Julia A. A Bartlett man is in custody after allegedly using a handgun to rob a business on Chicago’s West Side earlier this month. According to Chicago police, on December 16 at approximately 12:15pm, the 55-year-old suspect produced a handgun and demanded property from a commercial business in the 1700 block of West 18th Street in Chicago. The value of property received, if any, has not been disclosed. Yesterday at 8:40am, members of the Chicago Police Department Citywide Robbery Task Force arrested the suspect in the 500 Block of Wilson Lane in Des Plaines.. Three women were hospitalized after a shooting on Christmas Day in Aurora. On Thursday at approximately 8:08pm, Aurora Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Sunset Avenue where they discovered three female victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported the women, ages 34, 36, and 55, to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No additional injuries were reported. State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser has completed her review of the March 30, 2025, officer-involved death of Irving Martinez, age 30, of Aurora, finding no wrongdoing on the part of the Aurora police officers involved in the incident. According to the investigation, on March 30 APD officers responded to the Speedway Gas Station located at 948 North Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora, where they found Martinez in the bathroom, screaming and acting erratically. A Batavia man is in custody after allegedly killing his wife in at their apartment early Tuesday morning. According to police, on Tuesday at approximately 4:37am the Batavia Police Department was contacted by a man who claimed that he had just killed his wife. Officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 100 block of Church Street where they located the man just outside of the apartment. He was taken into custody without incident. A pilot and his passenger were killed Wednesday afternoon when their twin-engine Piper PA 30 crashed just after take-off from DuPage Airport in West Chicago. According to a statement from DuPage Airport, the accident occurred just before 2:00pm Wednesday. West Chicago Fire Department and Police Department personnel responded immediately to the incident, and airport was temporarily closed as emergency operations continue. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation. DuPage Airport officials are coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, which will lead the investigation to determine the cause of the accident. A 55-year-old live-in caretaker faces 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to torturing and starving a young child over a period of three years commencing in 2021. Firefighters successfully extricated the driver of a vehicle that had slid off a driveway, overturned and settled upside down in a creek in Elgin Thursday morning. At approximately 9:09am on Thursday, the Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire Protection District responded to the 9N600 block of Kendall Road after a report of a vehicle leaving a driveway and overturning into a creek. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a vehicle upside down and partially submerged in water. One occupant was trapped inside.
