A St. Charles Township man has been sentenced to 11 in prison for the sexual abuse of a child. On June 28, 2023, Kane County Judge Alice Tracy found 35-year-old Jesus J. Maciel Facio guilty of the offenses of Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony; Aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony (3 counts), and Indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 3 felony. A deputy in the Kendall County Sheriff’s office called it the worst scene he had ever witnessed. That scene involved the remains of a 66-year-old woman, Paulette Boyce, who, at the time of her death, weighed only 65 pounts and had 20 separate areas of skin lesions on her body, two of which went down to her bones. She was discovered in the Montgomery home of her daughter and caregiver, Jennifer Ashton, in December 2016. As part of the ongoing Union Pacific third main line project underway in Geneva, Metra has announced that Platform 2, the outbound platform, will be closed commencing October 9 and lasting through the end of 2024. Beginning October 9, commuters must use the temporary platform that will be located east of Third Street in downtown Geneva. Metra advised commuters to allow additional time to access the in-service platform and to exercise caution near work zones.
The crisis at the southern border can seem like it’s long way away from the Fox Valley, but Chicago’s self-proclaimed status as a “sanctuary city” may bring that crisis home to the suburbs sooner rather than later. Just this weekend, another 12 buses full of migrants arrived in Chicago, the largest number of buses in a single day since the beginning of the crisis. Five buses came in on Saturday and another seven arrived on Sunday, according to the city. Naper Settlement will host its cemetery walking tour “Tales from the Tombstone” this Saturday, September 30. The Kane County Board, by a vote of 20 yes, one no and one abstention, has approved a resolution endorsing Ethan’s Law. The measure is named for 15-year-old Ethan Song and aims to prevent unauthorized access to firearms by minors, by requiring secure firearm storage within households. Song died after accidentally shooting himself with a gun that had been left, unsecured, at a friend’s home in 2018. Since then, Song’s parents have pushed for a nationwide law to help ensure guns are safely security and out of the reach of children. Elgin police officers arrested a 30-year-old Elgin man Wednesday evening after thwarting an alleged attempted armed robbery. EPD was dispatched to the 0-99 block of South State Street at approximately 9pm Wednessday for a report of a subject with a weapon and a possible attempted armed robbery. Upon arriving at the scene, officers immediately took the suspect into custody and recovered a firearm. An Aurora man was arrested Wednesday by Naperville police officers following a month-long investigation into alleged drug dealing in the Naperville area. During the afternoon hours Wednesday, Naperville police executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the 2200 block of Ridge Avenue, Aurora. Several items of evidentiary value were recovered from the residence including a white powdery substance, which field-tested positive for the presence of cocaine, and packaging materials consistent with narcotics trafficking.
