The City of Elgin will present its inaugural Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with “Canta con Orgullo” (Sing with Pride), taking place on Saturday, September 16, at Festival Park. “Canta Con Orgullo” promises a day filled with cultural diversity and entertainment. Three branches of the Aurora Public Library District were evacuated Tuesday after police received an online bomb threat. At approximately 2:41PM on September 12th, officers were dispatched to Aurora Public Library District branches after a bomb threat was received through an online source. An evacuation was ordered at all three branches as a precautionary measure while officers investigated. A physical search of each location was followed by bomb detection K9’s from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Joliet Police Department. No devices were located. A Joliet man was denied bond by Judge Celine O’Hallaren Walsh after Naperville police found drugs and a handgun in his vehicle, according to a joint press release from DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres. The 36-year-old man appeared at a bond hearing this morning after being charged with one count of Armed Habitual Criminal and one count of Armed Violence. Both offenses are a Class X Felony. Two people were robbed at gunpoint in Naperville Saturday evening, according to Naperville police. In a press release, the Naperville Police Department reported that at around 9:08pm Saturday officers responded to the 1500 block of West Ogden Avenue for an incident that was determined to be an armed robbery. According to the release, the two victims were approached by a man armed with a handgun and wearing a mask, who then robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash and a cell phone.
