According to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff’ Office, a pedestrian was killed Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a passing freight train in Rutland Township. A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 2:51pm, a pedestrian was hit by a CPKC freight train on the railroad tracks that run east and west, parallel to Big Timber Road at Coombs Road, in Rutland Township. The identity of the victim has not been released. No further information is available as the investigation is ongoing.

For a second straight day, Elgin’s Larkin High School received a bogus social media threat, and for a second straight day the culprit was identifed and arrested. On Monday, an 18-year-old student was arrested and charged with a Class 4 felony in relation to a threat made against the school. On Tuesday at 7:12am, the School Resource Officer along with Larkin High School Staff investigated a second school threat at Larkin High School. In a blistering news conference Tuesday, Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin unloaded on Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain for Hain’s comments during a commemoration service for K9 Officer Hudson held last week. “What we saw last week was indicative of the Sheriff Ron Hain playbook,” said Irvin. “Pointing the finger. Blaming others. Lying outright. An Oswego teenager is dead after the vehicle he was driving caught fire after hitting a tree in unincorporated Oswego Friday evening. The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident which occurred at approximately 8:51pm Friday evening on Minkler Road near the intersection with Reservation Road. The preliminary investigation indicated that a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Sean Fader of Oswego was traveling southbound on Minkler Road when the car left the roadway, striking a tree and catching fire.
