A 49-year-old Yorkville man died May 5 when he was struck by a freight train on the Union Pacific-West railroad tracks at the Third Street crossing in downtown Geneva. Geneva Police and Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the scene at 8:53 p.m. for a train accident involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, police officers met with two men and located the Yorkville man near the tracks east of Third Street. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced today that a jury has found 36-year-old Alberto Vazquez of Aurora guilty of the offense of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Class 2 felony (two counts). According to prosecutors, on June 1, 2020, Vazquez sexually abused the victim, whom he knew. The victim was younger than 18 years old. Judge David P. Kliment set Vazquez’s next court appearance for July 13, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 305 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing. The Kane County Cougars open their 2023 season on Thursday, May 11, at Northwestern Medicine Field in Geneva. The new season will also bring a bonanza for baseball foodies. United States Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy Comey Barrett has given the City of Naperville until Monday to file a response to an emergency application for injunctive relief filed by a Naperville businessman and the National Foundation For Gun Rights. Barrett is responsible for assessing petitions for the 7th Circuit, which covers Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. As such, she can either recommend the appeal to the full Court or deny it outright. A 46-year-old Aurora man is in custody after allegedly threatening Governor JB Pritzker in an obscenity-laced voicemail in April DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly announced yesterday that the man has been charged with one count of Threatening a Public Official, a Class 3 Felony. Judge Joshua Dieden set bond at $100,000 with 10% to apply. According to the statement, the fake site address is “kanecountytreasure.org,” with the last “r” in “treasurer” missing. Like the legitimate site, it includes several links, one for online payments, one for legal records, one for court documents, and one for vehicle registration renewal.
