Plans for the development of a large, mixed-use building, River East Lofts, at the southeast corner of Illinois & Riverside Avenues in St. Charles will be reviewed during a public Plan Commission meeting this coming Tuesday, March 22. The development, proposed by local developer Conrad Hurst of Frontier Development, envisions retail space on the first floor and 4 floors of residential units, including 27 one-bedroom apartments and 16 two-bedroom apartments. According to a press release from the Aurora Police Department, crime in Aurora last year was something of a mixed bag. While murders, robberies and property crimes fell significantly, criminal sexual assaults and aggravated assaults and batteries spiked. Overall, the Aurora Police Department responded to 119,035 calls for service, and answered more than 226,000 emergency and non-emergency, telephone calls in 2021. Murders dropped from 11 to 6 in 2021, a 45.5% decrease from 2020. Shootings, including incidents where no one was struck, dropped from 154 to 105 in 2021, a 32% decrease from 2020. Omaha-based Cornerstone Housing Group, LLC (CHG) has submitted plans for a proposed 250-unit income-restricted apartment complex on 11.7 acres located at the southwest corner of State St and Kirk Rd in Geneva. According to the filing, the development’s target market is young workers starting their careers, retail/service-oriented professionals and other working residents of Geneva. With the restricted income requirements, residents must income qualify. The 2021 Limits are $39,180 for a single person household and up to $44,760 for a two-person household. A Kane County grand jury has indicted a 17-year-old juvenile in the attempted carjacking and shooting of a woman in an Aurora parking lot in January 2021. The incident left the victim paralyzed for life. The Aurora Police Department is searching for 28-year-old Saul Valdez, who went missing from AMITA Mercy Medical Center yesterday. He was last seen wearing green scrubs and a hospital bracelet. Saul is approximately 5’6” and 170 lbs. At approximately 5 p.m., officers were called to AMITA Mercy Medical Center for a man who left the emergency room. According to information received by Aurora’s 911 Center, the man was being held by the hospital for admission to a mental health facility under an involuntarily petition and is believed to be a danger to himself. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced today that Kane County Judge Alice C. Tracy has sentenced 44-year-old Jorge A. Gonzalez Munoz of Elgin to 21 years in prison. In January 2022, Gonzalez Munoz pleaded guilty to the offenses of producing child pornography, Class X felony, and 3 counts of criminal sexual assault, Class 1 felony. Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Rodgers stated in court that, between April and May 2020, Gonzalez Munoz sexually assaulted the victim multiple times and made a video recording of one of the sexual assaults.
