Comedy, confusion and love take center stage at Geneva’s Shakespeare in the Park performance of “As You Like it” at 3pm, Sunday, August 16, at Lords Park .
Rosalind is banished from the court of Duke Frederick – but not before she and young Orlando fall for each other. Seeking out her exiled father in the Forest of Arden with her devoted cousin, Celia, Rosalind disguises herself as a young man, Ganymede.
In fear of his own life, Orlando also escapes to the forest and soon runs into Ganymede, who pledges to cure his lovesickness. But in order to do so, Orlando has to woo her. Then the games commence.
Goodly Creatures Theatre returns to perform this legendary romantic comedy about clashing cultures, bids for power, hidden identities, friendship, loyalty, and love.
The show, which is free and appropriate for all ages, runs about 90 minutes with no intermission. Seating begins at 1pm at Lords Park Picnic Shelter East, located at 325 Hiawatha Drive in Elgin. The audience is encouraged to bring picnics, folding chairs and blankets.
