71-Year-Old Geneva Woman Dead, Son Critically Injured In DUI-Fueled Head-On Collision On Randall Road

An Aurora man is in custody charged with numerous felonies after his vehicle allegedly swerved into an oncoming lane on Randall Road Saturday evening, initiating a head-on collision that took the life of a 71-year-old Geneva woman and critically injuring her 26-year-old son.

The Geneva Police and Fire departments, assisted by the St. Charles Police and Fire departments, responded to the crash in the 1000 block of South Randall Road in Geneva at 9:13pm.

According to police, the 40-year-old suspect was driving a blue 2013 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on Randall Road. His car veered over the double yellow line into southbound traffic, striking a red 2019 Nissan Versa driven by the Geneva woman.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son, a passenger in the Nissan, was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva and then airlifted to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital in Chicago with life-threatening injuries. The man, who resides in Essexville, Michigan, is currently in critical condition.

The identity of the woman who died is being withheld pending notification to family members.

The suspect was treated and released for injuries at Delnor Hospital. He has been charged with:

  • Aggravated driving under the influence – crash causing death, Class 2 felony (two counts);
  • Reckless homicide, Class 3 felony, 720 ILCS 5/9-3(a);
  • Aggravated use of a communication device causing death, Class 4 felony;
  • Aggravated driving under the influence – crash causing great bodily harm, Class 4 felony;
  • Aggravated driving under the influence – no insurance, Class 4 felony (two counts);
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol, Class A misdemeanor;
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol – BAC .08 or more, Class A misdemeanor;
  • Operation of an uninsured motor vehicle causing bodily harm, Class A misdemeanor;
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while using an electronic communication device, Petty offense;
  • Driving on the wrong side of the road, Petty offense; and
  •  Driving too fast for conditions/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The suspect was transported to Kane County Jail at 5:17am Sunday morning to await a court hearing.

Geneva Police, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Kane County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the crash.
