A North Aurora man has been charged with two felonies for allegedly shooting at a moving vehicle near a West Chicago elementary school last November.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and West Chicago Chief of Police Colin Fleury announced the 20-year-old defendant has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (one Class X Felony and one Class 1 Felony). He was denied pre-trial release by Judge Joshua Dieden at his First Appearance Court hearing on Thursday. The defendant had been taken into custody on Wednesday.
According to police, on November 7, 2025, at approximately 6:43pm, officers with the West Chicago Police Department responded to the Timberlake Apartment Complex, 1220 South Kings Cross, for a report of shots fired in the parking lot. Following an investigation by the West Chicago Police Department, it is alleged that a black Ford Explorer with two occupants, a mother and her sixteen-year-old child, drove to the north portion of the center parking lot and remained there for approximately ten seconds when a subject, later identified as the defendant, exited from the 1220 Kings Cross building and began walking in the direction of the vehicle, at which time the driver began driving slowly. The defendant started jogging to catch up, and then began shooting a handgun at the rear of the vehicle as it continued to drive in the parking lot. After the shooting, the defendant allegedly entered the 1221 Kings Court building.
The shooting took place within 1,000 feet of Wegner Elementary School and, when processing the scene, authorities found that the shots allegedly fired by the defendant damaged the Ford and shattered a nearby patio door. Additionally, authorities recovered five spent shell casings in the parking lot area.
“The allegations that the defendant opened fire on a vehicle with two occupants in a public parking lot within one thousand feet of a school are extremely disturbing and will be met with the full force of the law,” Berlin said. “Thankfully, neither of the occupants of the vehicle or any other innocent bystanders were injured as a result of [the defendant’s] alleged behavior. This type of blatant disregard for public safety and the rule of law, as alleged in this case, will not be tolerated in DuPage County.”
The defendant’s next court appearance is scheduled for arraignment on April 13, 2026, in front of Judge Joseph Bugos.
