Celebrate Mexican Independence Day and the kickoff of Hispanic Heritage Month at Festival Park and downtown Elgin on September 13th and 14th. Get ready to celebrate the Fiestas Patrias filled with music, dance, and cultural delights.
On Friday from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, the event expands to include cultural performances including the Grito at Civic Center Plaza (between City Hall and Hemmens), a car meet in the City Hall south parking lot, and a retail vendor market along Riverside Drive.
On Saturday the festivities continue with a large car caravan beginning at noon from 901 Center Street (lineup beings at 10:00am), followed by the big concert at Festival Park, starting at 5:00 pm.
Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Mexican culture with interactive elements and activities including a life-size figure of the Angel of Independence, a Papel Picado sculpture, Callejones, festive piñatas, and much more. And no fiesta would be complete without delicious food and drinks, so be sure to indulge in authentic Mexican cuisine, including mouthwatering micheladas to quench your thirst.
Prepare to dance all night with an incredible lineup of entertainment including banda, norteñas, cumbia, huapangos, and rancheras, starting with Banda Peñasco de Zacatecas, followed by the hits of Los Sementales de Nuevo León, La Potencia de la Música Norteña, and culminating with the spectacular Banda La Sinaloense de Alex Ojeda, while DJ Eddy P keeps the party going with his infectious mixes between performances.
A dazzling fireworks display is expected to light up the night sky around 9:20pm, lasting approximately 10-15 minutes.
