The Aurora Uke Fest (formally the City of Lights Ukulele Festival) will return on Friday, May 5, from 11am to 6pm.
According to the City of Lights Ukulele Festivsl society, musicians like George Harrison, Eddie Vedder, Taylor Swift, Cliff Edwards, Jake Shimabukuro, and the late Israel Kamakawiwo’ole helped popularize the ukulele.
Americans bought 1.6 million ukuleles in 2019, according to the group.
Unlike prior years, the Aurora Ukulele Festival will be inside this year. The new location is the Two Brother’s Roundhouse at 205 North Broadway in Aurora.
The event includes workshops, food, vendors and performances by Danielle Ate the Sandwich, Abby Lyons, Todd Lorenc, Hoapilli & Hula O Puanini, Aaron Baer, the Hix Brothers Ukulele Band, Matt Griffo, and Uncle Jon’s Music.
Tickets are $25 per adult, $17 for ages 13-17 (accompanied by an adult). Children 12 and under are free. Tickets are available here.
