Man Sentenced To 8 Years For Assaulting, Injuring West Dundee Police Officer

A 28-year-old Sycamore man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for assaulting and injuring a West Dundee police officer while resisting arrest in 2022.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced today that Judge Julia Yetter has sentenced Tylor Z. Hyde to 8 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the following crimes:

Aggravated battery, Class 1 felony
Aggravated battery, Class 2 felony (2 counts)
Aggravated battery, Class 3 felony
Aggravated assault of a peace officer, Class 4 felony
Resisting or obstructing a peace officer causing injury, Class 4 felony
Resisting or obstructing a peace officer, Class A misdemeanor

On February 3, 2022, officers of the West Dundee Police Department responded to an extended stay hotel for a domestic disturbance involving Hyde. Hyde became aggressive with officers and indicated he was armed with a weapon. He swung his arm at an officer, placing him in fear of receiving a battery.

As officers were trying to handcuff him, Hyde intentionally shoved into the same officer in the shoulder/arm area, causing what prosecutors termed a “life-altering injury.”

“Officers of the West Dundee Police Department responded to a typical call for service on February 3, 2022, and were incredibly professional with the individuals they met that night, including the defendant,” said Assistant Kane County State’s Attorney Katy Flannagan. “The officers did everything they were trained to do, and the defendant made a series of choices that led to a life altering injury for an officer simply doing his job. This sentence sends a strong message that violence towards police officers in Kane County will not be tolerated.”

In accordance with Illinois law, Hyde’s sentence is 6 years for the Aggravated Battery count (Class 1 Felony) and 2 years on the Aggravated Assault count (Class 4 Felony) which are to be served consecutively with each other. Hyde is eligible for day-for-day sentencing and receives credit for 51 days served in the Kane County jail.
