A former Elgin man has been found guilty of the sexual assault of a teenager over a three-year period from 2008 to 2011.
Judge John A. Barsanti found Lawrence M. Slack, 65, of Goodyear, Arizona, guilty of the offenses of Criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and Aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony (2 counts).
Slack waived his right to a jury trial.
Between March 2008 and March 2011, Slack sexually assaulted the victim, whom he knew and who was younger than 17 years old at the time. The sexual assaults took place at the Elgin home where both lived during that period.
Judge Barsanti set Slack’s next court appearance for October 13, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing.
“I am grateful that the victim and her family members persevered through the trial process, and I am pleased the defendant has been held accountable for his actions,” Assistant State’s Attorney Tyler said after the verdict. “I hope the victim and her family can return to a place of safety now that the defendant has been found guilty.”
In addition to a prison term, Slack must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
Slack remains free on $20,000 bond.
