One person was killed and another hospitalized after a head-on collision by two pick-ups trucks in Big Rock Township Saturday morning.

At approximately 8:52am, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an accident with severe injuries in the area of Galena Street (US Route 30) and Jefferson Avenue in Big Rock Township.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a black Toyota Tacoma driven by 16-year-old F. Kosakiewicz of Lockport, IL, (all other information is being withheld due to ongoing investigation) crossed the centerline for an unknown reason and crashed head-on into a white Ford F150 pickup truck driven by 57-year-old James Lynch of Chicago.

Lynch sustained serious injuries and was transported to Ascension Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Kosakiewicz was also transported to Ascension Mercy and has since been released. Families of both individuals were notified of the crash and the current investigation.

There is still a pending investigation to discover whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, and potential charges may still be forthcoming. It also has yet to be determined if speed was a contributing factor associated with the crash. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is still working on the accident reconstruction of the scene.

If anybody was a witness or has any information relating to the crash, please contact the Kane County Investigations Division at 630-444-1103.
