Upcoming opportunities at Norris Recreation Center aim to welcome community members interested in exploring fitness and fun at the St. Charles Park District’s recreation facility.
From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 15, people are invited to stop by at 1050 Dunham Road for a Christmas in July-themed open house. This new event is free to check out, and those who show up will learn about becoming a member of the center along with all the member perks of a complimentary health & wellness consultation, access to many group fitness classes, program discounts and much more. Visitors will enjoy healthy snacks and have a chance to win a special giveaway.
“Our team loves to share all the many offerings that are included in a membership,” said Andrea Masoncup, assistant superintendent of recreation for the St. Charles Park District.
Members are welcome to participate in a variety of members only workout incentives. Two programs in July include the Group Fitness Summer Sweat Challenge to keep members accountable for their fitness routine and Wellness BINGO which involves tasks to complete to win a prize.
Another way to discover all that Norris has to offer is during the Bring-A-Friend Weekend on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27. A workout companion is a great way to stay motivated and accountable in an effort to reach fitness goals. Existing members are invited to bring a maximum of four guests to learn more and take advantage of the facility at no cost.
“Each Bring-A-Friend Weekend results in increased membership sales for that weekend and for a few days afterwards,” said Masoncup as evidence of the center’s appeal.
In joining the 6,300-square-foot facility, members become part of a welcoming community with the ability to enjoy a wide selection of amenities. Equipment available to members includes treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowers and more. Free weights and resistance machines allow users to build muscle and strength, while a cycling studio and four regulation-size hard tennis courts give members additional options.
Among the most popular offerings, said Masoncup, is group exercise classes, which take place in a dedicated studio. Members can choose from a wide range of cardio, strength building and toning classes, from bootcamp interval training and pilates to total body sculpting and several yoga programs. Classes take place at a variety of times throughout the day to maximize convenience for participants.
A 50-meter indoor pool for lap and open swim is another highlight. Members receive discounts on a number of swim programs operated by St. Charles Aquatics as well as on tennis programs and court fees.
The center includes a childcare center, which is free to members for up to three children ages 6 weeks to 11 years old.
