A 2-year-old Aurora child is listed in stable condition this evening after having been airlifted from Copley Hospital to Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago after being struck by a vehicle in Aurora Saturday afternoon.
According to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 1:21 Saturday afternoon a 2008 silver Ford was being driven westbound on Liberty Street in Aurora when a 2-year-old child ran into the roadway and was struck. According to witnesses, the child had been playing near the residence and had taken off running. Witness statements stated that the driver, identified by police only as J. Valdivia, was not speeding and tried to avoid the child entering the roadway but was unsuccessful.
Deputies arrived on the scene and were able to render aid to the injured juvenile, after which the child was transported first to Copley where he was immediately airlifted to Lurie’s in critical condition. The child has since been upgraded to stable condition.
There is still a pending investigation to see if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash and potential charges are still forthcoming.
