Is this the future?
Apple calls it “spatial computing.” We call it alchemy.
(If successful, it really may be alchemy, turning microchips and a few dollars of other material into lots and lots of gold.)
Rather than describe it, here’s an introduction from the company itself.
Look familiar?
We admit to mixed emotions. Sure, the technology is really, really cool. And we can’t help but wonder what insane applications will flow from it. (Given the speed of tech development, we won’t have long to wait.)
But there’s a feeling that we can’t shake. A feeling that this is yet another step away from reality, a further distancing ourselves from the real world we actually experience and, more important, from the people around us. Actual human interaction is already under siege from texting, social apps and other forms of digital communication. While this product purports to lessen that problem by an “I see you, you see me” interface, we’re a little skeptical on that score given recent history.
On the other hand, like so many new breakthroughs, it will likely bring about innovations that we currently can’t imagine, benefits that are currently unseen. We’ll just have to see.
In the meantime, if you’d like to plop down $3500 and give it a try, we’d love to hear what you think.
