Pottawatomie Golf Course is the most beautiful course in the Fox Valley area offering scenic views with lush landscapes. This rolling course was designed with all skill levels of golfer in mind. The fairways are fairly wide open and are tree lined. The Fox River comes into play on four of the nine holes. This short layout has three sets of tees for a varied golfing experience. Originally designed in 1939 by the pioneer of golf course architecture, Robert Trent Jones, Sr., who capitalized on the course’s location along the banks of the Fox River, it is here you will find his first island green design on hole 3.
The course’s Golf Pro is Ron Skubisz, who has been playing the game since he was about 10 years old. He used to sneak into the nine-hole course near his childhood home before the course management struck a deal, help tidy up the area and he could play as often as he liked. After that, there was no turning back and his love of the game only grew with age. Today he works with golfers of all ages, from those still in elementary school to his oldest customer, a spry 97-year-old.
“Some people are taking up the game for the first time, while for others it’s been a while and they need to tune up their game,” Skubisz said. “I can offer advice on posture, grip and alignment as well as equipment, which has changed a lot especially for those who haven’t played the game in the last 35 years.”
For those age 60 and older there are great course specials starting with the Monday discounts of $16 for nine holes. Bring along a grandchild to join you on the course for an additional $16. Skubisz said he’s started teaching his grandchildren ages 5, 6.
“It’s a game you can enjoy throughout your life and there is nothing better than playing with your kids or grandkids,” Skubisz said. “I’ve played a lot of sports in my life, but I can still take on any member of my family in golf.”
For those committed to the game, consider the annual weekday golf pass as a great way to save on visits and enjoy more time on the course.
“With the pass, you can even come in and play a few holes if you don’t have time for the entire round. It offers flexibility,” Skubisz said. “Each time you visit you can play as many holes as you have time for.”
