Early Wednesday evening, police found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of Esporta Fitness near Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee.
First responders attempted resuscitation on the man, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
After ABC7 News reported that police had indicated that “the incident may be connected a deadly shooting in Elgin over the weekend that left two dead and at least four others injured,” West Dundee Chief of Police Anthony Gorski said in a statement that, at this time, there is no evidence linking this incident to any others and that it appears to be an isolated incident.
The Daily Herald reported that West Dundee Mayor Chris Nelson stated that a suspect was in custody, while ABC7 also reported police were speaking to “two persons of interest.” Gorski did not address either report in his statement.
“I am not at liberty to provide any more details at this time, due to this being an active investigation, at its beginning stages,” he stated.
Police believe there is no general threat to the public, and asked any individuals with information related to this event to contact the West Dundee Police Department Investigations Division at 847-551-3810.
