A Kane County man has received a sentence of 12 years in prison under a plea deal related to an incident in 2025 wherein he brutally beat an elderly female family member in her home in Big Rock Township.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser announced today that Koda R. Uebel, from Waterman, has agreed to a sentence of 12 years of imprisonment in exchange for a guilty plea to the offense of attempt first-degree murder, a Class X felony.
According to prosecutors, in the early morning hours of May 31, 2025, attacked a 71-year-old female family member in her home, repeatedly punching, slapping, kicking, strangling, and biting the victim across her face and body. Other family members witnessed the attack over a home security camera and contacted 9-1-1. Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene at the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue in Big Rock Township at approximately 12:06am.
Through a locked front door, deputies observed Uebel striking the victim and heard him threaten to kill her. They forced entry into the residence and intervened to assist the victim to safety. Uebel attacked deputies, and a Taser was deployed. Uebel remained combative and bit one of the deputies during the arrest. Uebel was ultimately taken into custody, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Deputies observed that Uebel smelled like alcohol and was slurring his speech.
In accordance with Illinois law, Uebel must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He receives credit for 482 days served in the Kane County Jail.
“I agree with the judge, who described the facts of this case as among the worst attacks he has witnessed in his 40 years in the legal system,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Mark Stajdohar. “For someone to attack an elderly family member in such a heinous and senseless manner is beyond comprehension. The defendant not only inflicted devastating physical and emotional trauma on the victim but also caused profound harm to an entire family. Now, he will spend the next decade in prison facing the consequences of his contemptible and reprehensible actions. I hope this sentence provides the victim and her family with some measure of justice, and my thoughts remain with them as they continue to recover from what happened.”
