A 40-year-old Naperville woman has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for fatally shooting her fiancé in November 2020 after an argument over him allegedly seeing another woman.
On February 6, 2026, a jury found Rosa Lagrone guilty of one count of First Degree Murder in the death of her fiancé, Darnell Manns. The jury returned their guilty verdict against Lagrone following a four-day-long trial and approximately two-and-one-half hours of deliberations.
According to prosecutors, on November 6, 2020, at approximately 2:16pm, Lagrone and Manns were at her home located in the 0-100 block of 25W Keswick Lane in unincorporated Naperville arguing about Manns allegedly dating another woman. The argument escalated, resulting in Lagrone shooting Manns once with a pistol, striking him in his arm. The investigation later revealed that the bullet Lagrone fired went through Manns’ arm and lodged in his spine.
Following the shooting, Lagrone used Manns’ Facebook page to live video-chat with the woman whom Manns allegedly had been dating while he was on the floor in the background in a pool of blood.
Following the shooting, Manns was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. He passed away from injuries he sustained from the shooting on November 9, 2020.
“Domestic violence continues to be a plague on society with the worst cases carrying permanent, heart-breaking consequences, as we saw in the murder of Darnell Manns,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin said. “Judge Guerin’s thirty-eight-year sentence sends a strong message that in DuPage County we will not tolerate this type of violent behavior. No number of years however, will bring Darnell back to those who loved him and those he loved. Their grief will far outlast Ms. Lagrone’s sentence, and I wish them strength as they navigate their lives without the love, comfort and support once provided by Darnell.”
