Two people sustained non-life-threatening injuries Monday morning when a driver apparently had a medical issue and lost control of his vehicle, causing a multi-vehicle accident on Route 34 in Oswego.

According to police, at approximately 11:21am, Oswego Police were dispatched to a multi-vehicle crash near the intersection of Route 34 and Orchard Road.

The preliminary investigation determined that Izaiah Perez of Chicago may have suffered from a medical issue while driving and lost control of his Chrysler Pacifica traveling northbound on Orchard Road near the intersection. The vehicle traveled into the grass and across Route 34, just east of the intersection, striking a semi-truck traveling westbound on Route 34. The semi-truck struck two other vehicles also traveling westbound Route 34.

Additionally, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 34 struck the Pacifica shortly after the Pacifica struck the semi-truck.

Perez, along with a passenger in the semi-truck, were transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Perez was cited with Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Disobey a Traffic Control Device.

Route 34 was shut down in both directions for approximately four and a half hours.
