Aurora police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting Saturday evening on the city’s east side that left two men hospitalized, one of which in critical condition.
According to police, at approximately 10:55 p.m. officers responded to the area of Jackson Place and Anderson Street after ShotSpotter alerts detected multiple rounds of gunfire.
Upon arrival, the found two Aurora men, ages 19 and 20, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported by Aurora Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital. The 20-year-old man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the 19-year-old man was later transferred to another hospital for additional treatment and is in critical, but stable condition.
While performing the investigation at the scene, detectives recovered multiple shell casings and other evidence in the area, while also determining that Waldo Middle School was struck during the incident. No one was inside the school at the time.
Preliminary information indicates the victims were attending a gathering at a residence in the 0-100 block of Jackson Place when they were struck by gunfire. Detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
