A Country Club Hills woman is in custody after allegedly breaking into an Aurora residence Saturday morning and then, when police arrived, barricading herself in the home.

According to police, officers responded to the 100 block of South Edgelawn Avenue around 9:14am on Saturday after receiving a report of suspicious activity. During the investigation, officers discovered evidence of forced entry into a residence and encountered a woman inside who then barricaded herself inside the home.

After shutting down a portion of South Edgelawn Avenue, police negotiators and members of the Special Response Team (SRT) were summoned to the scene to resolve the situation peacefully and have the subject voluntarily exit the residence.

Eventually, the subject was taken into custody without incident.

The woman, 28, has been charged with Residential Burglary (a Class 1 Felony); Theft – Unauthorized Control Over Property More Than $500 but Not Exceeding $10,000 (a Class 3 Felony); Criminal Damage to Property Not Exceeding $500 (a Class A Misdemeanor); and Criminal Trespass to Residence (a Class A Misdemeanor).
