A 31-year-old Aurora man is in custody in connection with the death of a 57-year-old man who was critically injured during an altercation near a downtown church earlier this week.
According to police, at approximately 9:33am on Wednesday Aurora police officers responded to the Warehouse Church in the 300 block of East Galena Boulevard where they located a 57-year-old male victim suffering from severe head trauma.
Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported the male to Rush Copley Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation revealed the victim had been involved in a physical altercation with an acquaintance on Tuesday evening, during which he sustained severe head injuries. Those injuries ultimately resulted in his death.
Through witness interviews and evidence gathered during the case, detectives identified the suspect and took him into custody without incident.
Based on the investigation and the severe injuries leading to the victim’s death, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has authorized two counts of First-Degree Murder against the suspect, who is currently being held pending his initial court appearance.
Police indicate that this remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Aurora Police Department Investigations Division at 630-256-5500.
