West Chicago Community High School was the target of an apparent “swatting” event this morning, resulting in a the shut-down and thorough security sweep of the campus by West Chicago police officers.
According to police, at approximately 11:37am this morning the West Chicago Community High School received a phone call from an unidentified number stating that the individual on the phone wanted to do harm to the school. School administration immediately initiated a SECURE building at 11:40am, followed by a thorough sweep of the campus and building by West Chicago police officers. It was ultimately determined that no threat existed.
During this process, authorities were made aware that a similar phone call from the same number was placed to another school district outside of Illinois. Given this information, it was determined that this was likely a “swatting” incident and there was not an immediate threat to the school.
