A 20-year-old St. Charles man has been charged with multiple felonies for his alleged involvement in a fatal car crash that killed an elderly couple in Geneva last September.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and City of Geneva Chief of Police Eric Passarelli announced Friday that a Kane County grand jury has charged the defendant with Unlawful Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, a Class 2 felony; Reckless Homicide, a Class 3 felony (2 counts); Aggravated Reckless Driving, a Class 4 felony (2 counts); and Speeding, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to prosecutors, at approximately 1:40pm on September 5, 2025, a 2005 Toyota Corolla was initiating a westbound turn onto Bricher Road from Fisher Drive when it was struck by a black BMW X3 traveling eastbound on Bricher Road. The collision sent the BMW off the roadway into a wooded area north of the intersection, where it caught fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames.
The two occupants of the Toyota Corolla, a married couple from Geneva, died as a result of their injuries. They have been identified as Dennis White, 85, who was driving the Corolla, and his wife, Ritsuko White, 88.
The BMW was driven by the defendant, who had three passengers in the car with him. The defendant was not legally allowed to possess the car, which he had obtained from a St. Charles Chrysler Dodge dealership where he was employed at the time.
Prosecutors allege that the defendant slowed the BMW to a stop on Bricher Road, a residential area with a 45-mph speed limit, before accelerating aggressively and reaching a top speed of 119-mph moments before the crash. Instead of braking to avoid the crash, he steered the BMW left, apparently attempting to go around the Toyota Corolla but instead striking it head-on.
Two of the BMW’s passengers suffered fractures as a result of the crash. The third passenger was medically released at the scene.
On Friday, the court ordered the defendant released under Electronic Home Monitoring while his case is pending. The conditions of his release include a ban on driving any vehicle or contacting the remaining survivors of the crash.
His next court date is set for May 20, 2026, at 9am in Courtroom 311 of the Kane County Judicial Center.
