A 23-year-old Aurora man is in custody after a shooting incident on Aurora’s east side Wednesday evening.
According to police, at approximately 8:27pm officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating multiple rounds had been fired near the 400 block of Jackson Street. Upon arrival, officers confirmed evidence of gunfire and began canvassing the area.
Officers quickly developed information indicating that an individual discharged a firearm into the ground before entering a nearby residence. They made contact at that location, where firearms were located and evidence consistent with the reported gunfire was gathered. That information led to the identification of the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was transported to the Aurora Police Department for further investigation. Following a review of the case, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized one count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (a Class 4 Felony).
“This is exactly why this type of specialized technology matters — it helps officers respond quickly, locate evidence, and take action,” said Chief Matt Thomas. “While no people or property were struck by gunfire in this case, that does not make this behavior harmless. Every round fired creates risk, and we will continue to hold those accountable who put our community in danger.”
