Chicago Man Gets 20 Years For Home Invasion In Naperville

A 28-year-old Chicago man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for breaking into a Naperville home in the summer of 2022.

At the time of the offense, the man was on probation out of Cook County after pleading guilty to aggravated domestic battery charges in April 2022.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced that Adam Stone, formerly of the 600 block of East. Groveland Park, appeared at his sentencing hearing in front of Judge Margaret O’Connell, who handed down the sentence. On May 6, 2025, following a two-day bench trial which concluded on April 22, 2025, Judge O’Connell found Stone guilty of two counts of Home Invasion, a Class X Felony.

According to prosecutors, on August 6, 2022, at approximately 4:12am, officers with the Naperville Police Department responded to a call of a residential break-in on Smokey Court, where they found several men holding down another man, later identified as Stone, outside the residence. Authorities learned that Stone went to the residence where his ex-girlfriend was visiting, broke a basement window and entered the home. Once inside, Stone fought with occupants and eventually was forced out of the house. Approximately fifteen minutes later, Stone threw a landscape brick through the front window of the residence and threw landscape bricks at the windows of vehicles parked in the home’s driveway.

“We all have the right to feel safe and secure in our homes,” Berlin said. “Our homes are our sanctuaries that provide us with safety and security and when Mr. Stone broke into the victim’s home, he not only shattered the feeling of security the homeowners previously enjoyed, he also set an entire community on edge. Judge O’Connell’s twenty-year sentence sends the crystal-clear message that in DuPage County, we will not stand for this type of violent behavior and anyone engaged in such behavior will find themselves facing serious consequences.”
