According to a release from the Aurora Police Department, the man shot by APD officers Wednesday afternoon has died from injuries sustained during the incident. He was 27 years old.

No further information has been released about the man, and an autopsy will be performed at a later time to determine the exact cause of death.

An Aurora man who barricaded himself in his home and displayed a knife when approached by police was shot and injured Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of South Broadway.

The incident began after Aurora police received a call at approximately 12:35pm for a Person with a Weapon/Battery.

Officers responded to the area and an adult male was barricaded and armed with a weapon. When responding officers encountered the male, he displayed a knife. Shots were fired by Aurora police officers and the male sustained at least one gunshot wound.

Officers immediately rendered aid to the male until the Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene. AFD continued providing emergency medical care to the male.

The officers involved were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

An independent investigation into the officers’ actions is being conducted by The Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force.

While the investigation remains ongoing, police are encouraging the public to come forward with any information. Relevant details can be directed to the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Division at (630) 256-5500.
