A homeless man was arrested Wednesday after brandishing a gun on Elgin’s northeast side.
At 4:10pm Elgin police officers responded to the 300 block of Purdue Lane after a report of a man brandishing a weapon. A description of the man was provided to responding officers who located a subject matching the description a short distance away. A gun was located on the man and he was taken into custody.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed and approved charges of Reckless Discharge of Firearm, a Class 4 Felony; Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon- FOID ineligible, a Class 4 Felony; Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon- No CCL, a Class 4 Felony; and Aggravated Assault- Public Way, a Class A Misdemeanor.
On Thursday the suspect was transported to the Kane County Judicial Center for a pre-trial detention hearing. He remains in custody with a next court date of January 21, 2026 at 9am.
