An Arizona man was released on his own recognizance Friday morning after being charged with stealing cells phones from an Apple Store in Naperville on New Year’s Day.

The suspect was charged with one count of Burglary (Class 2 Felony), one count of Retail Theft (Class 3 Felony) and one count of Misdemeanor Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.

According to police, on January 1 at approximately 4:25pm, the suspect, a 24-year-old resident of Chandler, Arizona, entered the Apple Store located at 120 West Jefferson Avenue in Naperville , selected three iPhone 17 Pro Max 1TB phones and left the store without paying for the merchandise. The suspect fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Equinox and when a Naperville police officer, driving a fully marked police SUV with activated emergency lights, signaled for him to stop, the suspect refused to stop and fled the officer. At approximately 9:00pm last night, officers with the Minooka Police Department located the suspect and took him into custody.

“Make no mistake, even though the holiday season is now in the rear-view mirror, law enforcement in DuPage County remains vigilant and we will continue to go after those who mistakenly believe they can come here, help themselves to whatever they like and simply leave,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin. “Burglary and retail theft are not victimless crimes. We all bear the cost in the form of higher prices, lost revenue and wages, reduced local economic investment and a lost sense of security.”

The suspect’s next court date is scheduled for February 11, 2026, in front of Judge Margaret O’Connell.
