A Batavia man is in custody after allegedly killing his wife in at their apartment early Tuesday morning.

According to police, on Tuesday at approximately 4:37am the Batavia Police Department was contacted by a man who claimed that he had just killed his wife. Officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 100 block of Church Street where they located the man just outside of the apartment. He was taken into custody without incident.

When officers entered the apartment, they located a female victim with significant, life-threatening injuries. First responders attempted to render aid to the victim, but she was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. The subject, a 37-year old Batavia resident, was transported to the Batavia Police Department.

With the help of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, the department initiated a comprehensive investigation which revealed that this was a domestic-related incident involving two subjects and that there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office was requested to the scene, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

The suspect has been charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder.

The suspect will be transported to the Kane County Jail for a detention hearing. Identification of the deceased will be made by the Kane County Coroner’s Office following notification of next of kin.
