A 45-year-old Addison man has been denied pre-trail release after being arrested for allegedly shooting at police from his home, injuring one.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Chief of Police Roy Selvik announced yesterday that Judge Michael Burton granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial an Addison man charged with one count of Attempt First Degree Murder (a Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm at an Officer (a Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer (a Class X Felony) and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by Felon (a Class 2 Felony).
According to prosecutors, on Thursday at approximately 11:01am, the Addison Police Department responded to the 220 block of East La Porte Drive for a 911 call where the suspect requested that “people to come find his dogs or his people will go looking for them and the police should do their job.” After a brief interaction, the officer left. A short time later, Addison police officers responded to a call at the same location from a neighbor stating that the suspect was acting erratically. Upon their arrival, the suspect allegedly told officers that if they did not find his dog he would “reign fire down at 12 o’clock.”
After speaking with officers for a brief time, the suspect began walking up his driveway and sprayed pepper spray in the direction of the officers, which was inhaled by two officers, and then returned to the residence. After additional officers and an Addison Police Social Worker arrived at the scene, the suspect exited his home carrying an unknown item and began shouting at the officers, only to return to his home when officers approached him.
A short time later, the suspect fired approximately six to seven shots at officers from inside his home, striking one officer in the back as he retreated for cover. The officer, who was wearing a Kevlar vest, was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries. Four officers returned fire at this time. The suspect continued shooting at officers, roughly every 5-10 minutes, until about 1:22pm.
At approximately 3:15pm, SWAT took the suspect into custody. When processing the scene, authorities located approximately 250 shell casings in the home, along with multiple handguns and multiple magazines.
“Armed barricades create an immediate threat not just for responding law enforcement, but for the entire community,” Berlin said. “With every second that passes, the risk of violence and potential tragedy escalates. For nearly four hours last Thursday, responding officers and an entire community were on edge, hoping for the best yet fearing the worst. We are all extremely thankful that no officers sustained serious injury, and no innocent members of the community were injured.”
The suspect’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 24, 2025, in front of Judge Mia McPherson.
