A 26-year-old Aurora man was arrested by Aurora police after unlawfully entering a residence in the 900 block of Wood Street in Aurora, battering the occupants, and then fleeing from officers in a pick-up truck.
Officers were dispatched to the residence around 11:13pm on Monday, September 15, for a report of domestic violence and determined that the suspect had unlawfully entered the home, physically battered a female adult victim, and struck a male juvenile who attempted to intervene. He also caused property damage before fleeing in a black Dodge Durango.
Aurora officers initially located the Durango and attempted to stop it, but it fled recklessly, and the pursuit was ultimately terminated for public safety. Another jurisdiction also attempted to stop the vehicle before terminating. About 30 minutes later, Aurora officers located the Durango near Andover Drive and Middlebury Drive, where the suspect was safely taken into custody without further incident.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges of Home Invasion, a Class X Felony; Criminal Trespass to Residence, a Class 4 Felony; Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding – two counts, Class 4 Felonies; Domestic Battery – four counts, Class A Misdemeanors; Interfering with the Reporting of Domestic Violence, a Class A Misdemeanor; Criminal Damage to Property, a Class A Misdemeanor); and multiple traffic-related offenses, including fleeing/attempting to elude, speeding, improper passing, disobeying traffic control devices and stop signs, and failure to signal.
“This was a dangerous and violent situation that escalated quickly and put a family at serious risk,” said Aurora Police Chief Matthew Thomas. “Our officers acted decisively to identify the suspect, coordinate with surrounding agencies, and bring him into custody safely. I want to commend the victims for their courage in coming forward and our officers for their persistence in tracking this offender down.”
