An elderly Geneva couple died when their car was hit by an SUV Friday afternoon at the intersection of Bricher Road and Fisher Drive in Geneva.
At 1:40pm Friday, Geneva Police and Fire departments, along with the Batavia Fire Department and Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District, responded to the intersection where they discovered a dark blue, 2020 BMW X3 off the roadway in a wooded brush area north of the intersection, sparking fire, and a blue, 2005 Toyota Corolla east of the intersection. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flame in the BMW.
According to the preliminary investigation, the BMW was traveling eastbound on Bricher Road approaching Fisher Drive while the Toyota was attempting to turn westbound onto Bricher Road from Fisher Drive. The BMW struck the Toyota, pushing the Toyota out of the intersection and sending the BMW off the roadway.
An 85-year-old Geneva man, who was driving the Toyota, and his wife, 88, were killed in the crash. Their names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
The BMW was driven by an 18-year-old man who had three passengers, ages 18 to 19, in the vehicle. The driver and two passengers were medically released at the scene. One passenger was transported by paramedics to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva.
No charges have been filed, but the crash remains under investigation. Geneva Police, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, and the Kane County Coroner’s Office are working collaboratively to investigate the crash.
Bricher Road was shut down from Peck to Camden roads while law enforcement personnel remained on the scene. The roadway reopened around 7:40 p.m.
