17-Year Old High School Student Shot, Killed In Hampshire

A 17-year-old high school student was shot and killed Saturday evening at a residence in Hampshire.

His alleged assailant is in custody.

At approximately 11:30pm on Saturday, the Hampshire Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of High Street for a report of a shooting inside the residence, where they found a 17-year-old male Hampshire resident, later identified as Deegan Kirschke, suffering from a gunshot. Kirschke died at the scene.

With the assistance of nearby law enforcement agencies, an investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Hampshire man on charges of Involuntary Manslaughter; Endangering the Life or Health of a Child; Reckless Discharge of a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm without a FOID card; and Possession of Ammunition without a FOID card.

The suspect was taken to the Kane County jail pending a bond hearing. Authorities indicate that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Kirschke was reportedly a wrestler for the St. Charles East Wrestling Club. He entering his senior year at Hampshire High School.
