A body discovered in the prairie of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve appears to be that of a 46-year-old mother of 5 from Naperville who has been missing since late last month.

At approximately 1:55pm Thursday, Naperville Police Officers were called to a trailhead at the southwest corner of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, near the intersection of 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive, for the report of a dead body discovered in the prairie. Officers arrived on scene and were led through a dense area of high grass to the body. The clothing of the deceased matched the clothing that Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede was last seen wearing.

At this time, no foul play is suspected.

“While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, the final confirmation will be made by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office,” said Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres. “We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincere condolences to the Abosede family during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone in our community who assisted with this investigation and for your care and concern. We ask that everyone keep the family in your thoughts and respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

“Our hearts go out to Sinmi’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Forest Preserve District Police Chief David Pederson. “We will continue to work closely with the Naperville Police Department and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office to ensure this investigation is thorough and respectful.”

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County Police is leading the death investigation in collaboration with the Naperville Police Department. Anyone who may have information that would assist police in this death investigation should contact police@dupageforest.org.

The search for Abosede has involved extraordinary efforts on the part of Naperville police and other groups since she was reported missing on the morning of July 30. Authorities have utilized K9 units and drones, while engaging with the Naperville Emergency Management Agency, an organization of trained volunteers who specialize in ground search missions.

Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve remains open to the public. There is no ongoing threat to public safety.
