An Oswego man and woman were arrested Monday after an investigation revealed that they have been breeding and training chickens for sport fighting.
On June 22, detectives from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation for suspicion of violations of the Animals in Entertainment Act. Pursuant to this investigation, on Monday detectives from the Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the 1000 block of Harvey Road in Oswego Township wherein a significant number of chickens and additional evidence were recovered. The chickens were removed with the assistance of Kendall County Animal Control and Adoption Center and the Kendall County Emergency Management Agency, and are being appropriately cared for by Kendall County Animal Control.
Subsequent to the search, the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against a 40-year-old male and a 46-year-old female, both from the residence that was searched. Each have been charged with ten counts of violations of Animals in Entertainment Act (Owns Animal for Sport Fighting), each is a class 4 felony, ten counts of violations of the Animals in Entertainment Act (Train Animal for Sport Fighting), each is a class 4 felony, one count of Violation of Animals in Entertainment Act (Breed Animal for Sport Fighting), a class 4 felony, and three counts of Possession of Ammo without a FOID, each is a class A misdemeanor.
The suspects were taken to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Following a court hearing on Tuesday, they were released with pre-trial conditions.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
