A 44-year-old Aurora man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a man Sunday evening.

At approximately 5:56pm on Sunday, officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue, where they located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound who was in critical condition.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 6:39p.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office took custody of the victim and conducted an autopsy yesterday, wherein the victim was positively identified as 21-year-old Tirom Kirksey, Jr. of Aurora. The cause and manner of death are currently under investigation, and toxicology samples have been collected and sent for further forensic analysis.

Preliminary information indicates that the shooting occurred following a dispute between two acquaintances, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges against the suspect of First Degree Murder (two counts); Armed Violence; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

The suspect is currently in custody with the Aurora Police Department as he awaits transportation to the Kane County Jail.
