Geneva Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Domestic Dispute

A 42-year-old Geneva man is in custody after allegedly attempting to suffocate a woman Thursday in what is being called a domestic dispute.

The suspect has been charged with Attempted Murder – First Degree – Intent to cause death or great bodily harm, a Class M felony; Aggravated Domestic Battery – with Strangulation, a Class 2 felony; Aggravated Domestic Battery – Causing Great Bodily Harm, a Class 2 felony; Unlawful Restraint, a Class 4 felony; and various misdemeanors relatead to domestic violence.

At 12:28am Thursday, Geneva police arrived at a home in the 300 block of Division Street after receiving a call from the victim. There they found the woman outside the her home having difficulty walking on her own. She had multiple abrasions and bruising on her face, as well as a laceration on her left arm.

According to the investigation, the suspect had allegedly thrown the woman on a bed several times and held her down against her will. The woman told officers she passed out after the suspect allegedly sat on her chest while covering her mouth and nose.

According to the woman, once she regained consciousness, the suspect continued his attack by covering her mouth to prevent her from screaming for help out a window. The woman attempted to leave several times but was physically stopped by the suspect, who took her cell phone.

The woman eventually was able to break free and regain possession of her phone to call 911.

The woman, who had suffered multiple broken bones, was transported by the Geneva Fire Department to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

The suspect later left the residence to speak with officers. He was treated for minor injuries sustained during the altercation at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Wheaton. He was released from the hospital and placed under arrest a short time later.

The suspect is scheduled to appear for a detention/conditions of release hearing.
