A 54-year-old Aurora man has received what is effectively a life sentence in prison after being found guilty of multiple counts of child sexual abuse and pornography.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced yesterday that Judge David Kliment sentenced Ronald J. Lye to 109 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In January, Judge Kliment found Lye guilty of Manufacturing Child Pornography, a Class X felony (14 Counts); Possessing Child Pornography, a Class 2 felony (17 counts); Possessing Child Pornography, a Class 3 felony (1 Count); and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a Class 2 felony (12 counts).

According to prosecutors, on multiple occasions between April 1, 2020, and May 7, 2020, Lye drove to the juvenile victim’s home, picked up the victim whom he had met on a social media app, drove to his Aurora home and had sexual contact with the victim, which he video taped. Lye knew the victim was 13 years old.

“This sentence will not make the victim whole, but ensures Ronald J. Lye will be locked behind bars for a very long time and he will be unable to prey on children,” Assistant State’s Attorney Morgan Wilkinson said after the verdict.

Lye is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He must serve at least 50 percent of the sentence, and receives credit for 31 days served in the Kane County jail.

In addition to the prison term, Lye must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
