A 23-year-old Campton Township man was arrested early Saturday morning for brandishing a weapon at a St. Charles bar and pointing it at passing vehicles.
At approximately 12:21am Saturday, St. Charles police officers were dispatched to a bar in the 0-99 block of North 3rd Street for the report of a person inside that business who was armed with a handgun.
Officers who were already on foot in the area conducting regular bar checks immediately responded and stopped the person as he was exiting the business. The person was found to have a loaded handgun in his waistband.
An employee of the business had called 911 after witnessing the suspect pulling the gun from his waistband, turning on a weapon mounted flashlight, and pointing the gun at passing vehicles on North 3rd Street. The suspect then stood up from a table, still holding the handgun, and walked behind the bar where the employee was still on the phone with 911. He then exited the business.
The suspect was found to have a valid Illinois FOID card and Concealed Carry License. It is, however, unlawful to carry a firearm in any place which is licensed to sell alcohol. It is also unlawful to carry or possess a firearm while engaged in the commission or attempted commission of a misdemeanor involving the use or threat of violence against another person or another person’s property.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the St. Charles Police Department and was later charged with Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (2 Counts), a Class 4 Felony; Aggravated Assault, a Class A Misdemeanor; and Aggravated Assault Use of a Deadly Weapon, a Class A Misdemeanor.
The suspect was assigned a court date of March 20, 2025, at 9:00 AM.
