According to police, on January 1 at approximately 6:52pm, Aurora Police officers responded to an alert in the 0-49 block of North Anderson Street where they discovered Fidel Macias-Hernandez inside his home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation indicates that Macias-Hernandez was walking in his kitchen when a gunman fired multiple rounds into the residence from outside. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics provided emergency medical care and transported Macias-Hernandez to a local hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on January 16th.
