Batavia police are actively searching for a suspect believed to have robbed a Speedway gas station at gunpoint early Monday morning.

At approximately 1:37am Monday, Batavia police officers were dispatched to the Speedway gas station located at 1495 East Wilson Street for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim (store clerk) who indicated that the robbery had occurred just minutes before she called 911. The victim told the officers that the suspect entered the business, presented a handgun and demanded money and lottery tickets.

The victim described the suspect as a black male, approximately 40 years of age, wearing a black parka style coat, black face covering (described as a ski mask), and noted that he was wearing gloves. After committing the robbery, the suspect left the business and was last seen walking westbound from the area.

Batavia police and Kane Country Sheriff’s deputies imnmediately undertook a search for the suspect, including the deployment of a drone and a K-9 officer, but were unable to locate him.

No one was injured during the robbery and the suspect never made physical contact with the victim. During the investigation, paramedics responded to the scene to evaluate the victim following the traumatic experience.

Batavia Police continue to investigate this incident and request that anyone with information, including eyewitness accounts or surveillance video, contact Batavia Police Investigations Division at 630-454-2500.
